The Lion King is a musical based on the homonymous Disney film of 1994, with libretto of Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi, Songs of Elton John and Tim Rice, and additional music of Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer. Directed by Julie Taymor, the show is produced by Disney Theatrical and is characterized by the use of animal masks and large puppets to represent the different characters.
The original production of Broadway was released in 1997 and since then the musical has been staged in many countries throughout the worl.

The first Spanish language production was released on October 20, 2011 at the Teatro Lope de Vega in Madrid,  where it continues to be represented today after more than 2,600 functions and having exceeded the 3 million spectators.  Produced by Stage Entertainment in association with Disney Theatrical and with a budget of more 9 million euros, the Lion King is the most ambitious musical ever made in Spain. In order to put it into operation it took several years of work and a multitude of auditions in different countries, as well as an integral reform of Lope de Vega Theatre which was carried out in the summer of 2011.

They use installations, choreography, poetry, theatre, painting,… There are no precise limits, the important thing is to impress, excite and convey the idea of the artist to the present audience.
